ACLAC is organizing a Workshop about Encryption and LGBTIQ+ Rights, to be held this June 28.

In June, the month of vindication of rights and freedoms by LGBTIQ+ groups, the Alliance for Encryption in Latin America and the Caribbean will hold a workshop for which experts and activists from all over the region will be joining, and will discuss about the importance of encryption, and the effectiveness of this tool for protecting rights and freedom over the Internet.

On June 28th it is celebrated Pride Day, so the Alliance for Encryption in Latin America and the Caribbean, AC-LAC is organizing a open and free Workshop, with the objective of highlighting the important role of cryptography for the security and preservation of LGBTIQ+ (both groups and individuals) rights.

Encryption as a guarantee of protection of LGTBIQ+ rights

The event (registration is already available HERE), will be moderated by Angie Contreras (Cultivando Género), and also a panel will be presented, formed by of five experts and activists, who will debate and make contributions, about the functionalities of encryption, in order to face violence and persecution that still exist today in some parts of the world towards LGTBIQ+ groups and individuals. Those are Ramon Costa (ONG TODXS, NIC.br); Maricarmen Sequera (TEDIC py); Paloma Szerman (Whatsapp); César Briceño (Colectivo PTF Yucatán / Ensayo LGTB) and Roberta Battisti (Instituto Liberdade Digital).

Then, it will be abailable a space for questions and public debate.

The Alliance for Encryption in Latin America and the Caribbean, ACLAC, together with Cultivando Género; Electronic Frontier Foundation, EFF; Instituto de Pesquisa em Direito e Tecnologia do Recife, IP.rec and the movement Mujeres Vivas y Libres, held a Workshop, led by experts from the region and assisted by a multistakeholder audience, where it was addressed encryption as a promoter and protector of reproductive rights and privacy and personal data protection.
